Tech Admin2024-09-19T16:54:35+02:00EMC10T1S is our new Ethernet to 10BASE-T1S Media Converter module entering Flexmedia XM family.
Automotive Ethernet 10BASE-T1S is a communication standard designed specifically for in-vehicles use, part of the broader Ethernet for automotive networking.
IEEE has developed a new variantion of the Ethernet standard that offers a bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s over a single pair pair physical layer, and is called 10BASE-T1S, where the S stands for “short reach”.
10BASE-T1S uses a multidrop topology where each node connects to a single cable. This eliminates the need for a switch and results in fewer cables. Each cable only uses one pair of wires, instead of the four pairs used in typical Ethernet cabling. Multiple nodes can be connected, with a bus length of 25m, with 10cm stubs to each node.
All the nodes share the 10 Mbit/s bandwidth. Its main features are:
– Offers a 10 Mbit/s data rate. This is designed for low-speed, low-bandwidth applications, such as connecting sensors, actuators, and controllers in a vehicle’s body and comfort systems;
– Supports a multidrop topology, where multiple devices (ECUs, sensors) can share the same twisted pair of wires. This reduces the number of cables required in the vehicle;
– Adopts collision-free mechanisms like PLCA (Physical Layer Collision Avoidance), generally working in half-duplex mode, making it suitable for multiple devices communicating over the same wire while ensuring deterministic behavior (important for safety-critical applications);
– Uses a single twisted-pair cable but designed for shorter reach, up to 25 meters. Ideal for connecting multiple ECUs in a smaller area, such as within the body, sensor networks, or comfort systems;
10BASE-T1S is designed for cost-efficient, low-bandwidth, and low-latency communication for simpler in-vehicle networks, and Flexmedia XM EMC10T1S is your go-to solution for next-gen in-vehicle network testing!
